Mary Aitchison

Mary Aitchison, Ph.D., CCC-SLP is an ASHA certified Speech-Language Pathologist with the Aphasia Lab and Center for the Study of Aphasia Recovery (C-STAR). Her role includes Project Manager for SpARc (Speech Entrainment for Aphasia Recovery), an NIH Phase II Clinical Trial, and Co-Investigator for HOPES (Health Outcomes Predict dEmentia in Stroke), a supplement to C-STAR’s inaugural P50 grant. Graduating with her B.A.Sc. degree from the University of Guelph in Canada, Mary pursued and was awarded her Master’s and Ph.D. in Speech Pathology degrees from the University of South Carolina. She has served as a Clinical Assistant Professor in the USC School of Medicine – Departments of Surgery and Pediatrics, and as Adjunct Faculty in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders. With a joy for her career exceeding 3 decades, Dr. Aitchison has held positions that allowed her to maintain and share her passion for clinical practice and collaboration in conjunction with teaching, supervision, and research. Her clinical experience includes specializations in the rehabilitation of adults impacted by stroke, traumatic brain injury, and other neurological conditions.
